Giving to the A&S Honors Program

The College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program provides a wide variety of opportunities for academically motivated undergraduate students to connect with exceptional faculty and peers. These opportunities include taking Honors Program courses, graduating with Latin honors through the writing and defense of an honors thesis, obtaining the Interdisciplinary Honors Studies certificate, participating in numerous academic and social events, joining the Honors СÀ¶ÊÓƵs to help build community, and the possibility of having their work published in and/or participating in the production of our highly respected Honors Journal. 

Gifts to these funds help us to maintain and build Honors Program opportunities for CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ undergraduate students and to fund activities that enhance our community of student scholars.  We greatly appreciate your donation!

  • Arts & Sciences Honors Program Fund (CU Fund #0060156): This fund provides support for the general operations of the Arts & Sciences Honors Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado СÀ¶ÊÓƵ campus. Funds are used in a variety of ways to support the program and its students, including but not limited to supporting the certificate and thesis process; offering special trainings, instructional courses, events, and guest speakers; funding the Outstanding Undergraduate of the College scholarship; and much more. 
  • The Van Gerven First Generation Merit СÀ¶ÊÓƵship in the Honors Program (CU Fund #0123612): Named for Claudia and Dennis Van Gerven in recognition of their longstanding support for the Honors Program, this scholarship aids in the recruitment of first-generation students from Colorado who are of high academic promise and who intend to participate in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program.
  • Honors Program Fund (CU Fund #0121018): This fund will provide merit-based scholarships for undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program at the University of Colorado СÀ¶ÊÓƵ. 
  • Honors Journal Undergraduate Publication Fund (CU Fund #0123453): This fund supports the student-run , an interdisciplinary publication showcasing the best creative and scholarly work CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ’s undergraduates have to offer. Expenses paid with this fund include the printing of the journal as well as advertising and circulation.
  • Honors Program Endowed Fund (CU Fund #0151213): This fund will provide merit-based scholarships for undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program at the University of Colorado СÀ¶ÊÓƵ.

Arts & Sciences Honors Program СÀ¶ÊÓƵships

The Honors Program is currently offering three scholarship for Honors Program students:

Van Gerven Merit СÀ¶ÊÓƵship

The Van Gerven Merit СÀ¶ÊÓƵship is awarded two incoming first-year undergraduate students who graduated from a Colorado High School who are first-generation college students accepted into the College of Arts & Sciences, and plan to participate in the A&S Honors Program at CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must:

  • Must be enrolled in a major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • Must participate in the A&S Honors Program by taking one Honors course per semester.
  • Complete the CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ General СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application.
  • Complete the College of Arts & Sciences СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application.

The scholarship is awarded for one academic year and is renewable through completion of a first-time bachelor’s degree. To maintain eligibility, recipients must enroll full-time as undergraduate students each fall and spring semesters; and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA each semester. Recipients are also required to participate in the CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Honors Program by taking an honors course every semester.

Honors Program Endowed СÀ¶ÊÓƵship

Students who meet all the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Incoming first-year, transfer, or continuing students with a major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • Incoming first-years or transfers must have been invited to join the Honors Program.  Continuing undergraduates (at CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ for 1 or more years) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Must be a Colorado resident.
  • Complete the CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ General СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application and the College of Arts & Sciences СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application.

Diamond Stecher Family Endowed СÀ¶ÊÓƵship

The Diamond Stecher Family Endowed СÀ¶ÊÓƵship is awarded to students in the Honors Program in the College of Arts and Sciences. It is awarded to one student for the academic year and is split equally between the fall and spring semesters ($1,000 in the fall and $1,000 in the spring). Students who will graduate this academic year are not eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Current undergraduate student eligible to participate in the A&S Honors Program with a major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Must be planning to graduate in the following academic year or later.
  • Complete the CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ General СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application.
  • Complete the College of Arts & Sciences СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application.

How to apply for our scholarships:

  1. Visit your Buff Portal ()
  2. Click the 'СÀ¶ÊÓƵships' card, found within the Finances card group within the main menu
  3. Click the ‘Apply for & Manage СÀ¶ÊÓƵships'. A new tab will open the CU СÀ¶ÊÓƵ СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application
  4. Complete the general application questions and essay, and click ‘Submit’.  You must also complete the A&S СÀ¶ÊÓƵship application.  We encourage you to complete the optional questions in the A&S СÀ¶ÊÓƵship Application as well; this may significantly increase the number of scholarships you are in consideration for college-wide (not just in Honors).
  5. Click ‘Start Applying’, and a list of scholarships will appear
    • If you do not see the above scholarship(s) listed, you can search for them in the search field.
  6. Click ‘Apply’ next to the scholarship name to complete our supplemental application and supplemental question.  
  7. Click on ‘My Applications’ in the menu bar to view the status of your applications.

Admitted students who have not accepted yet, please know that you are welcome and encouraged to go ahead and fill out the scholarship application before you need to finalize your decision.
